Students from the Strategic Marketing Department completed an impactful sustainability project entitled "Creative Recycling".

University of Hail Marketing Students Complete "Upcycle Mind," Using 15,000 Plastic Bottles in Awareness Mosaic

A team of ten female senior Strategic Marketing students from the University of Hail (UOH) successfully executed the impactful sustainability initiative titled “Upcycle Mind.” This project demonstrates how marketing knowledge can be applied to create meaningful social and environmental change.

Completed over a period of six intensive days, the project involved collecting and utilizing approximately 15,000 used plastic water bottles to construct a striking recycled mosaic measuring approximately 8 × 7 meters. The primary objective of the initiative was to raise public awareness regarding recycling, waste reduction, and sustainable thinking.

Through the "Upcycle Mind" project, the students applied essential strategic marketing and business skills including planning, organization, communication, leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving. The complexity of coordinating bottle collection, managing strict time constraints, and completing the final installation mirrored real-world marketing challenges, demanding strong collaboration and adaptability. The success of the project underscores the value of experiential learning and demonstrates how marketing skills extend beyond theory into practical, impactful application.

The dedicated student team included: Ghazlan Khalid, Athmar Matab, Norah Adel, Raghad Mubarak, Shahad Abdulsalam, Foz Ahmad, Shahad Dakheel, Aseel Naser, Hind Khaled, and Malath Sulaiman.

The project was guided by Dr. Tahreem Noor Khan, Instructor of Marketing, who assigned this senior challenge and supported the students in effectively applying their academic knowledge. The students would also like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Dalia Diab, Head of the Marketing Department, and Dr. Sahar AlBosaily, Vice Dean of the College of Business Administration, for their continuous support and encouragement.

Following the awareness phase, all bottles were handed over to Arab Recycling Co. (represented by Mr. Ahmad ElAhmed Elsherbiny, Hail Branch Supervisor, www.arabrecycling.biz) for further industrial recycling. Mr. Elsherbiny expressed his appreciation for the effort and encouraged the students to continue their impactful work in sustainability.

“Upcycle Mind” stands as an example of the creativity, dedication, and leadership potential of UOH marketing students—and serves as a reminder that sustainability begins with awareness and later action.
