Cataloging and Classification Department


   About the department: 
   This department is responsible for indexing books referred to it from the Supply Department. Indexing means the physical and objective description of books and other sources. The goal of indexing is an attempt to control human knowledge and present it in a described 
   and organized manner for scholars and researchers to benefit from it. As well as classification of books and some sources of information 
   The other is organized on shelves according to the Dewey Decimal Classification, a global system that divides knowledge into ten main areas.


   Tasks of the Indexing and Classification Department:
   1- Indexing and classifying information sources received by the department according to the Dewey Decimal Classification and Anglo-American indexing rules.
   2- Using the automated system (SYMPHONY) in the process of entering bibliographic records, which relies on globally standardized bibliographic fields.
    3- Create, modify, and adjust bibliographic records in accordance with machine-readable indexing rules (MARC 21).
   4- Developing the skills of library workers, university students, and members of the local community in the field of cataloging and classification through training and practical application.
