To achieve food security in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, our wise government has paid great attention to the agricultural and livestock sectors, recognizing the vital role they play in sustainable economic development. The agricultural gross domestic product reached approximately 40.1 billion SAR in 2007, contributing about 6.4% to the non-oil sector and around 2.8% to the Kingdom's overall GDP. Meanwhile, the agricultural and fishing sector's share of bank credit granted to economic activities in 2006 amounted to about 7.4 billion SAR, representing 1.6% of the total credit allocated to all economic activities.
The Ha'il region is considered one of the important agricultural regions in the Kingdom due to its high comparative advantages. Total agricultural production in Ha'il reached approximately 111,545 tons of grains, fruits, vegetables, and fodder, according to the Ministry of Agriculture statistics for 2008.
Therefore, the Sheikh Ali bin Muhammad Al Jumaiah Chair for Sustainable Development in Agricultural Communities was established as one of the most important research institutions concerned with the sustainability of the agricultural sector in the Kingdom in general, and in the Ha'il region in particular. To achieve sustainable agricultural production, the Chair undertakes studies, consultations, and research projects across various agricultural fields. It also implements programs aimed at developing farmers through appropriate training courses and workshops.
In conclusion, I extend my sincere thanks and gratitude to His Excellency Sheikh Ali bin Muhammad Al Jumaiah for his generous support and dedication in achieving the Chair's goals, asking Allah Almighty to reward him abundantly for his good deeds.
