Brief history of the programme

Bachelor of Sciences in Nursing​

Health care is one of the basic pillars of social services that countries are keen to provide and finance, given that providing health services to members of society means preserving human capital, which is the basic foundation of development. 

Nursing care services are considered one of the most important elements of the success of health care, and the nursing profession is considered the backbone of health activity and the cornerstone of hospitals, primary health care centers and various governmental and private health institutions, as nursing represents the largest professional group working in health organizations. 

Nursing, as defined by the World Health Organization, is a science, art and skill that concerns the human being as a whole, body, mind and spirit. The nursing role is not limited to patients only, but extends to include healthy human beings through preventive measures that contribute to enhancing the health of the individual and society in general. 

The nursing profession is one of the professions as old as history, which has evolved from traditional practices to scientific practice based on evidence, branching out into several specializations. 

There has been increased interest by leaders of the health and educational sectors in the Kingdom in this profession, especially since most of its employees are non-Saudi contractors, as the percentage of Saudis is only 37% of the total number of nurses in all health sectors in the Kingdom. 

The nursing profession is a humanitarian profession with a future, and requires nationalization, and a nurse who knows the culture of society and the needs of the patient. 

There is no unemployment in this profession; Because the demand for nursing is high. 

Due to the necessity of adopting a strategic project that guarantees increased opportunities for the localization of this profession, the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 included, in one of its initiatives, an initiative aimed at enhancing the value of allied health professions, through a systematic national project that relies on community involvement to increase the attractiveness towards this profession. 

These efforts culminated in the generous guidance of launching the “Crown Prince Nursing Program”, which aims to increase internal scholarship opportunities for the nursing specialty to meet the labor market’s need for qualified national cadres, which makes us optimistic and hopeful about a bright future for this profession. 

The program was launched under the umbrella of the College of Nursing - University of Hail in the year 1432 AH, and a group of academic departments in the College of Nursing participate in teaching the program, where the program is supervised by a group of specialized and qualified faculty members. The first class of the program graduated in the academic year 2011-2012 AD (1432-1433 AH). ​​

  • ​Produce qualified nurses competitive in the labor market who are able to provide comprehensive nursing care, and contribute to scientific researches activities responsive to the needs of the surrounding community through a high-quality education program that optimizes the utilization of human and technical resources to foster life-long learning​

Goals

  • Equip students with competence to be scientifically distinguished, professionally qualified nursing graduates providing safe, holistic, and quality care to clients at home, in the hospital, and in the community.
  • Immerse students in an administrative system and academic leadership that applies critical thinking, creativity, decision-making, and problem-solving in various client care situations across the lifespan.
  • Foster the development of research policies in the discipline to enhance student practice and knowledge in nursing.
  • Actively contribute to the discipline in promoting interaction and collaboration with the community.
  • Integrate information technology systems to continuously develop student knowledge, skills and values in their pursuit of continuing education and lifelong learning.

Admission Requirements
  • ​The applicant must be a Saudi National or born to a Saudi Mother, or those excluded by laws and regulations or the national interest 
  • Students must be a holder of a valid high school secondary education (grade 12th) certificate (Scientific/General/Health Track) or its equivalent from inside or outside the kingdom.   
  • The period of the obtained high school secondary education certificate or its equivalent, not more than two to five years if there are available study seats, and the University Council may make an exception from this condition if convincing reasons are available. 
  • The applicant must maintain a good conduct. 
  • The applicant must not be dismissed from the University of Hail or from another university for an academic or disciplinary term 
  • To be medically fit 
  • The applicant must pass the General Aptitude Test (GAT) and the Scholastic Achievement Admission Test for scientific (Sc) tracks in particular.  ​

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program graduates are qualified for various occupational and professional sectors within the healthcare industry. Some relevant sectors and positions include:Hospitals and Healthcare Facilities: BSN graduates can work in hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, and other healthcare facilities

BSN graduates can work in public health departments and community health centers.

  • Nursing Educati​on: 

BSN graduates can pursue careers as nurse educators, teaching and mentoring future nurses in academic institutions or nursing schools.

BSN graduates can contribute to nursing research by working in research institutions, universities, or healthcare organizations, conducting studies, analyzing data, and contributing to the development of nursing science.

  • ​​​Nurse Management/Administration: 

BSN graduates can take on leadership roles as nurse managers or administrators, overseeing nursing departments, managing budgets, and ensuring quality patient care.

BSN graduates can specialize in various areas of nursing, such as pediatrics, geriatrics, critical care, or mental health, and work in specialized units or departments within healthcare facilities.

BSN graduates can work in home healthcare settings, providing nursing care to patients in their homes.

BSN graduates with an interest in healthcare technology can work as nurse informaticists, utilizing their nursing knowledge to optimize the use of technology in healthcare settings, manage electronic health records, and analyze healthcare data.
