About the Structural Materials Engineering Laboratory
The Structural Materials Engineering Laboratory is fully equipped with specialized equipment for conducting tests of construction materials (concrete). The testing laboratory conducts individual tests for structural concrete properties and falls under each of the following:
- Aggregate test divided into the first, third and fourth experiments.
- Soil screening test in the second experiment.
- Cement mixture in the fifth, sixth and seventh experiments.
There are also devices for testing rebar used in reinforced concrete.
- Testing the properties of fresh concrete in the eighth experiment.
- Testing the durability property of concrete in the ninth and tenth experiments.
List of experiments
Basic tests are carried out for the main components of concrete eg coarse aggregate, fine aggregate and cement as well as the properties of fresh and hardened concrete. A list of practical procedures is given below. List the equipment available in the structures laboratory
1. Sieve analysis of coarse aggregate
2. Sieve analysis of fine aggregate
3. Specific gravity of coarse aggregate
4. Water absorption of coarse aggregate
5. Testing the purity of cement using the sieve analysis method (dry method)
6. Standard test method for cement paste cohesion by VicatApparatus
7. Standard test method for initial and final setting of cement paste by VicatApparatus
8. Workability of fresh concrete by slump test
9. Find the strength of hardened concrete by rebound hammer test
10. Finding the strength of concrete using UTM
