Chemical Engineering
The Chemical Engineering Department, established in 2009, is one of the most important scientific Departments at the College of Engineering, University of Ha’il. The department offers one undergraduate program (Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, CHE) and one postgraduate program (MS in Advanced Materials and Technology). The aim of the CHE program is to graduate qualified Chemical engineers to cater the growing needs of industrial and government sectors in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Recently, in the cycle of accreditation 2021-2022 and considered from fall 2020, the program awarded initial accreditation by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of ABET in the course of the program evaluations. Since the Electrical Engineering Program accreditation cycle is due, all engineering programs at the College of Engineering are required to reapply for accreditation in 2023-2024 cycle.
Chemical Engineering relies on chemistry, physics, mathematics, computer basics, applied Engineering and economic sciences for the design and operation of the various production units to convert raw materials to more useful industrial products both effectively and economically.
The CHE program curriculum is therefore tailored to include core courses such as: Principles of Chemical Engineering, Physical, Analytical and Organic Chemistry, Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics, Principles of Materials Science and Engineering, Transport Processes of Fluid Mechanics, Heat and Mass, Separation Processes, Kinetics and Reactor Design, Modelling and Simulation of Chemical Processes, Process Dynamics and Control, and Engineering Economics and Design Principles. In addition, students take Integrated Design Course (Part I and Part II) project in which they advance their skills, knowledge and abilities. CHE Students also spend 28-weeks duration of training in industry via two courses (Cooperative Work CHE 350 and Continuous Cooperative Work CHE 351), a real-world work environment, where their technical knowledge, communication and practical skills are enhanced.
The CHE Department also works to develop, communicate, and apply scientific research, community services, and professional developments. The Department's faculty members, selected globally from internationally reputed institutions, are of high qualifications, outstanding teaching experience and research expertise in various areas of Chemical Engineering.
The CHE curriculum is periodically reviewed to ensure that the students receive in-depth Chemical Engineering knowledge and practical experience in core Chemical Engineering subjects. The students are required to study courses in mathematics, physical sciences, English language and humanities. Furthermore, the curriculum offers a broad undergraduate education to develop analytical skills and practical design knowledge that ensures long-term career flexibility. Throughout its duration, the program delivers design and laboratory experience as well as enhances teamwork and communication skills.
The demand for highly competent Chemical Engineering graduates is steadily increasing in industry as well as in academia. One of the best opportunities available to our graduates is the possibility of continuing their graduate studies. Our graduates get admission to graduate programs at top ranking universities in the kingdom and abroad.
Furthermore, most of our graduates are working in different distinguished companies such as Aramco, SABIC, Al-Marai in food Industry, Hail Cement, Aja Pharma in Pharmaceutical field, and Waste water plants in environmental sectors.
