Eligibility:
The University is centrally funding the Symantec®
Anti-Virus (SAV) software. It is free to all faculty and staff
of the University for both on- and off-campus computers. The
software must be removed from the computer when the owner no
longer has one of above relationships with the University.
You must enter
your UOHid and password before you can download the SAV
software. If you do not have a UOHid.
Is This Anti-virus Software for Me?
Every computer should have anti-virus software
installed and more importantly, the virus software should be
kept up-to-date--there are new computer viruses appearing all
the time. Once installed, the SAV software we provide will check
for updates regularly (you can also request an update at any
time). You should not disable the anti-virus software. A virus
can strike at any time and the loss or damage to data and the
time required to restore a computer to its proper operation is
both frustrating and time-consuming.
At the same time, the SAV software will not stop
any (new) viruses that it does not know about.
You should
maintain up-to-date working backups of your computer data and
system.
This software is specifically configured for
individuals who are responsible for their own computers.
This includes faculty and staff.
Note to faculty and staff:
If you have
someone in your site responsible for the maintenance of your
computer
(installing
software, fixing hardware and software problems, handling
network connectivity, etc.), your local support person will
install the SAV software on your computer--you do not have to
download anything. Contact your local computer support staff for
additional information. (Computer/network system administrators
can obtain a version of the software designed for their
requirements at
http://download.).
Support: Where to Get Help
The
Information Commons Help Desk --
helpdesk@uoh.edu.sa (06) 5312500-(147)
provides help with the
installation instructions and with the normal operation of the
software. However,
neither the vendor nor the ITC can restore your computer's data
and configuration if it becomes corrupted by a virus. You are
strongly advised to have a working backup of your system before
attempting an installation
