Welcome to the first issue of our HCC newsletter. I would like to start this editorial with thanking the members of the Editorial Board. I also would like to say a big Thank you to all of you who have contributed. This has been largely on the willingness of volunteers to come forward and express interest in what we believe is a new medium of communication between the faculty and the students.

This first May issue consists mainly of contributions written by faculty members. The articles vary in content and are of the same nature. The issue opens with the article “High Performance Computing Lab at CSSE” submitted by Saifut Khan. The article, as its title states, is about the set up of a high performance lab at CSSE. Another contribution is the “Hail Community College’s Graduate in High Demand” by Dr. Wulf Hinrich Bisse which focuses on the hot topic of Saudization and its relationship with the efforts our college is making to equip its graduates with the necessary skills and knowledge to meet the job market’s expectation.

Another article, submitted by Dr. Noureddine bouljefene regarding the creation of an Electronic Club for HCC students stresses on the attractive and appealing way to learn and practice electronics as a hobby through projects and assignments. I let you find out more about these articles and others. It is hoped that readers will find the articles informative and interesting.

This year seems like it was so long, yet it went by so quickly. So much has happened. It was a dynamic year filled with many accomplishments. For instance, the College has recently being announced in the local newspaper that it is going to be a University ‘very soon’. Another area of achievements is the college website which was created and put online by the ITC department as a tool for reaching out. It is updated and improved every day to make it both informative and attractive.

The fact that this newsletter wasn’t published earlier this month is that I was literally running out of time, not to mention the preparation for the commencement ceremony which I am involved in as a chair of one of its sub-committees:  Information Committee. Generally speaking, there have been lots of activities going on in all departments within the college.

As the year draws to a close,  we are all getting ready for summer vacation, I wish you all an enjoyable trip and a pleasant holiday.

For our next issue starting next semester, contributions are welcomed from now on, of course, should any of you like to submit articles for the next issue (i.e. September 2004). I eagerly await your e-mails at: amn@kfupm.hcc.edu.sa

Finally, I should express my gratitude to the Editorial Board; the Supervising Editor, Dean of HCC; the Advisory Panel, comprised of the Assistant Dean for Administrative affairs and Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs who supported me all the way from that little tiny idea that has spawned into what you are reading now. I  also wish to extend my thanks to Dr. Philip Bolt, ELC Director, for his recommendations and assistance.  I am also very thankful to the ITC Dept. for their technical support and  generous help in publishing this newsletter on the HCC web site.
