Introduction to the profession and its origin:
The profession of pharmacy is the mother of health sciences as the ancient scientists were well versed in it, the pharmacist at the time is to know the diseases, and the discovery and composition of medicines and the most famous of these scientists are Al-Razi, Jaber Ibn Hayyan and Ibn Sina. The profession has evolved clearly until it reached what it is now and turned from the pharmacist who dispense the prescription and ensure the safety of drug conflicts and compatibility with the diagnosis of the disease to the new model of the profession of pharmacy is to participate with the integrated health team (doctor and nursing staff) in patient care and participation in the treatment plan and intervention In order to ensure the correctness of the treatment plan for the patient in accordance with the age and diseases that he has, the drugs he takes and other important factors. This does not overlook the other aspects of the pharmacist profession, such as the exploration of drugs, their composition and manufacture, whether from plant or biological sources.
Sections of the Pharm.D Program:
Department of Clinical Pharmacy:
The department teaches most of the courses of the study plan. The comprehensive concept of clinical pharmacy also contributes to the graduation of a pharmacist who is able to provide the health care team with information on medicines that will help the success of the proposed and alternative treatment plans for patients.
Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology:
The department supervises the conduct of basic medical courses. The department also deals with the teaching of toxicology courses that study the harmful effects of drugs and how poisoning occurs in these substances and study the symptoms of poisoning, diagnosis, treatment and prevention.
Department of Pharmaceutics:
The department also deals with the physical and chemical properties of the substances involved in the synthesis of different pharmaceuticals and the effect of these substances on the effectiveness of the preparations. In addition, the department teaches pharmaceutical biotechnology and pharmaceutical manufacturing methods, including processes and equipment, as well as the principles of good industrial practice for the pharmaceutical industry.One of the most important tasks of the department is the teaching of pharmacy microbiology.
Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Alternative Medicine:
The department teaches courses that include pharmaceutical organic chemistry, analytical chemistry and pharmaceutical chemistry. The decisions of the department are concerned with the pharmacological groups according to the relationship between their pharmacological effect and structural composition and methods of construction as well as control by different methods of qualitative and quantitative analysis. The Department's courses also deal with evidence-based alternative medicine as well as complementary medicine and natural products used in treatment.

Job Opportunities for Pharm.D Program Graduates:
In addition to the above tasks, there are several tasks for the graduate of the program of the pharmacist, including:
  • One of the pillars of the medical team during the daily rounds on patients to consult the treatment plans for patients and educate the patient in all their medicines.
  • To create therapeutic guides and formulary guides used within the hospital or health institution.

  • Work in the field of drug control and all its activities in the SFDA such as evaluation of drugs, registration, monitoring of drugs after registration.

The future of the pharmacy profession:
The pharmacy profession is one of the fastest growing health professions and changes to higher levels, especially with the scientific and technical advances that help greatly. According to the studies, the demand for graduates of the pharmacist's programs will increase significantly in the coming years due to several reasons, including the development of the quality of medicines and the increase in the number of drugs in the market, which leads to the need to consult pharmacists continuously, an increase in the number of elderly people with chronic diseases and shifting the profession of pharmacy from the traditional profession To a career with a more comprehensive job description. On the other hand, the recent presence of information technology has become one of the aid to the development of the pharmacy profession, where it has become clear use in the areas of the profession such as e-exchange through a system without paper recipes, and the presence of adequate devices during field visits to patients, also in the preparation of drugs and solutions is expected To have a greater scope in the near future. With the presence of research by pharmacists but not the desired level, it is expected to increase the scientific research in the field of pharmacy by pharmacists.
